Hey guys, i just bought a 96 240 i have lots of experiance w/ the older 240sx 90 w/ the sohc but i dont know to much about the ka24 dohc. for some reason it will only allow me to rev it up to 5grand and if i leave it there for a few seconds and slowly press on the gas it will rev up to 6,000 but if i put my foot in to it the engine studers and drops back down to 4,999rpm. it is wierd i cant figure it out ive pretty much tried everything i can think of. if some one can help it would help out a bunch!!!

But more than likely that sounds like the knock sensor is fuc$ed......

either that, or the speedo is ****ed. happened to my boss's '96 as well...

 

are you in gear when you hit 5000 rpms? THe 240sx has a rev limiter when you're in 5th gear... not at the red line... i think it was at 5g. maybe that's faulty and screwing around with your driving.

Try it out... kick your clutch in and put the shifter in 5th.... then slowly rev... it'll stop at 5g .. or somewhere around there.

 

it is stopping at 5,000 in every gear! i think it is my timing, my dist. is cranked all the way over clockwise and my timing is still like 5- 10 deg. below Norm. and i dont know what i should do im thinking of removing the dist after the engine is at TDCand spining a few notches and then trying it. its a used car so you never know what idiot worked on it before me. gotta love fixing other ppls mistakes. oh well off to trouble shoot some more.
