Question Aftermarket intake

I'm looking for some insight from those who are using other than stock intake systems. I have a stock 93 coupe and just rebuilt the KA24de front end. The engine (158K) runs extremely well, but I am thinking about changing to an aftermarket short-ram style intake. Ive seen the generic type on e-bay for +/- $30.00 and want to know if there are any real performance gains to be had?
What can I expect to get as a positive and what draw backs such as more engine noise should I expect? Thanks to all for any info you may have.
