Car Not Starting!

Okay so I have a bone stock 90 240sx that i bought off my friend for 600 bucks but it didnt start, well it did for like a second then if you tried to start it again afterthat it would just turn over, and you'd have to wait pretty much over night and it would start for like a second again, so im thought it was something electrical so i put in new plugs and battery, still no, took the plugs out one by one they all fired so its not the wires or dist. cap, so then im like i started hitting away at the thermostat (damn that thing is in a tight spot!) and after about a minute of that it would start up for like 2 secs every time i tried it, then i tried it again and now it doesnt even turn over! whats wrong with this thing? is it the starter?
thanks,
brad

Kinda hard to troubleshoot your prob with what you describe. One of two things probably. Air/fuel or spark. Check your coil. Make sure it's got compression. Hammering away at the thermostat!?!? Man, take that thing to a MECHANIC.

Couldn't be the starter, its job is just to turn the flywheel just enough to get it the engine starting. And since you said it was starting then it would just die, your starter is working correctly..its just something wrong with your engine lol

Check your fuel system too, might be injectors, might be the fuel lines clogged up. Don't really have enough info to work with without seeing it

Well i know it cant be the starter. However do you guys think that it could be the distributor cap? My brother in law owns a 240 as well and his is in the process of being rebuilt and he says it sounds like it could be the distributor cap or distributor cap rotor? So i dont know, any info will help
Thanx Guys

Does the oil look like it has water in it? Head gasket or another gasket might be blown

I have a car that had similar problem with yours! Enigne turns but will not start, specail in the hot day! I check out and replace all the electrical coponent and it doesn't help! My result and had been told the same thing, is the "fuel pump". But I would change the fuel filter first rather than the pump, and then give a try! But the syptoms not happen everyday! But yours is worse! I am not sure check the fuel pump and filter will help, but u can give a try!

I would definitly try the filter and fuel pump. Change the filter, Get a disposable cup or bucket or gas tank... take the fuel line put in the bucket and have a friend try to start it. If fuel comes out connect it back and try to start the car with the new filter. Good luck
