Car wont even turn over!!
Hey guys
i just picked up an 89 240sx with about 200k on the body and 100k on the second motor. the body is in really good shape, no rust to be seen. i was told that the motor runs fine but there is an electrical problem with it, everytime you go to start the car, all of the electronics go out.
i first though the battery was dead. i multimetered it and it was 12.35v with the key off.
i then tried to start it by jumping the posts on the starter. it sparked, but did not turn over. this resulted in the same issue as when you go to start the car, no power.
what else should i be looking for??
i read in the service manual that the magnetic thing on the starter may be bad. tonight i am going to pull the starter off and test it.

Uh, the starter is bad. End of story. The solenoid may be bad. If you hear it click, the solenoid is working, but the contacts may be bad. in any case, having a starter rebuilt, or even getting a remanufactured unit isn't too expensive. The worst part about this situation is getting the starter on and off. Otherwise, it is simple. Good luck, mang.

i pulled the starter off today, its a reman unit.
i turned the key to the start position with the starter out, and the car didnt die. im going to autozone after work tomorrow, and hopefully the starter is the problem.
if not i have bigger issues.

if it's a m/t you can always try push staring it. when my battery was dieing i did this a few times until i got the new battery. i got so good at it that the car only needed to move about a foot for me to start it.
it's defiantly not a long term solution but just a trouble shooting tip.
