no i havent checked heater core...

if it is the headgasket it would be a waste to spend almost the same getting a new headgasket installed as it would for a new motor.. my motor has 213,xxx miles.. so i dont see justification for trying to spend lots of money bandaiding an old turd..

 

Yea id just get a new motor also...jus turn your heat to full blast....if it gets hot then your heater core is fine..

 

have you tried a self diagnostic? Try that first before investing in a new engine.

It's not really a good idea to start replacing parts if you don't know what's wrong with your car.

 

a head gaskit doesnt cost that much
and is easy to replace.
head gasket = $75-$80
new motor = $450.00-$1000
how is getting new motor cheaper?????

 

found ka24de w/ 40-50k miles.. for $400

im sure that the multiple overheatings with my bad headgasket.. didnt leave the engine internals in good shape... so why risk replacing the headgasket into a broken up engine...

 

I`m not gonna try and talk you out of buying a new engine, but all the things you`ve said about the one you have are untrue and just your way of justifying another engine. If you want an engine, buy it. As for the one you have, if it really is overheating because of the headgasket, it would run perfectly if the headgasket was replaced properly, if the internals were being harmed significantly by the heat, you`d know about it in the way it drove. Periodic high temp conditions in the engine actually help clean out carbon deposits and buildup. Long term (longer than a few weeks of very high temp, overheating a little bit every now and then over a long time wouldn`t make as significant a difference) it can shorten the life of parts that are lubricated to keep from scratching, like bearings, but they`re still gonna last longer than it`ll take for most of the other things in/on the engine to give out.

A KADE with 200,000 miles is just getting started, with decent maintainance. If it`s been neglected and abused, it would be getting ready to die by that point, but all it takes is changing the oil every 5-10,000. All the other maintainance you can do will certainly help (and in some cases, become necessary), but oil is the highest priority if you want your engine to last.
Replacing a leaking headgasket isn`t a bandaid, it`s equivalent to removing a tumor. Finally, your current engine isn`t an "old turd", it`s KADE like any other, what makes it specific is what it`s gone through and what all is and isn`t functioning on it.

 

Have you tried a leakdown test to find out if the headgasket is bad?

A bad HG doesn't mean you need to replace the motor. Even on tempermental engines like 7mgte,4g63t and G54B's(starion)

If the headgasket is bad or worse the head is cracked, you can check the block/deck for straightness. If it is great, now take your head to a mach shop and have them check it for cracks..if it isn't replace the gasket and go for it..

The other way to check the head gasket is to disconnect the over flow tube that goes from the radiator to the over flow tank, get a cup of water, put the tube in the cup... start up the car and let it run, if it starts blowing bubbles, then you need to replace the head gasket. Also, check the water temp sensor, it might be bad as well... I need to do that for mine also.

 

what if you got a radiator thats not clogged but only partially flowing or a pocket somewhere and u put ur "NEW" motor in and that bi*ch still overheats what are you going to do than? point of my post find the damn prblem pick up a book do what you need to do to find out what is really going under ur hood before u junp to ur new motor conclusion
