Unplug the battery overnight, and the ECU.

Could be wrong.

i tried unplugging the battery but i only left it unplugged for like five minutes...and i went in the car and pushed the brake...but i'll try it overnight and unplug the ecu but i am just not sure where it is located or what it looks like.

if you completely disconnect the battery (both + and - ) then do you really have to unplug the ECU?

Actually, try this (you still have to remove the ECU, but you don't have to go under the hood):

I did this method when I bought my car and it worked... your results may vary

Your ECU doesn't have a status light?

The SOHC depends on the emissions system you have ( federal or cali) I dont have a CEL either , so you have to actually look on the ECU itself.
So for future reference
CALIFORNIA emissions= CEL
Federal emissions=NO CEL( manual check of the ECU)
