Check Engine Light (quickie for the guru's)
where is the ecu for me to unplug it???
sorry i would do a search but im at my girlfriends house which is out in the country and its a 26.4 kbps dialup connection....it took me like 15 mins just to load these forums
i tried unplugging the battery but i only left it unplugged for like five minutes...and i went in the car and pushed the brake...but i'll try it overnight and unplug the ecu but i am just not sure where it is located or what it looks like.

if you completely disconnect the battery (both + and - ) then do you really have to unplug the ECU?
Actually, try this (you still have to remove the ECU, but you don't have to go under the hood):

I did this method when I bought my car and it worked... your results may vary

i had a check engine light.... i did the same thing you did... unplug both + and - for about 5 mins... didnt work... you have to do it for like an hour or overnight.... i did it for overnight and the light was gone... no discconnetion of ecu
i still havent had a chance to do anything yet....but i will this weekend...i'll try doing it without the ecu first....im hoping its not an actual problem. thanks again for all your replies.

So for future reference
CALIFORNIA emissions= CEL
Federal emissions=NO CEL( manual check of the ECU)
