EVAP Crap

The story:

My 96 has been throwing a code 108 as of late. Running beautiful. FSM said it had to do with the EVAP system.

Took it to nissan for one of those $80 diagnostic checks... Man I hate that place... But long story short nissan tells me I need to replace two parts. The parts are:

EVAP Canister
EVAP canister vent control valve

One of these is $116
The other is $96

The question:

Do I really need this crap? Is there any way to disable the vent control valve without throwing a code. I know these problems aren't causing me any driving problems I just can't stand seeing that check engine light, and I don't want to unplug the light just in case something else goes wrong.

Just because you think it's running good. Doesnt mean it is. If the car isnt modified to be a race car & is in pretty good shape. replace the parts. You can get them at NAPA for about 1/4 the price & do it yourself very easily.

I agree with you. Just because I think the car is running right does NOT mean that it is. What I mean is everything feels normal. No missing, hesitation or anything like that. I should have been clearer on that one.

As for NAPA I called them they told me they have nothing for the EVAP system at all. Not the canister or the valve. I also tried discount, etc. No place seems to have these parts in my area for some reason.

If I am not mistaken it has something to do with the fuel vapor. And seriously, if anyone knows where I can buy these parts online let me know. I've been googleing my *** off and all I can find is the canister.

I found and read that list also but I have no idea what it means in terms of actually getting the part.

There was a revision to the parts & they have to be a matched set. So unless you know the part numbers for the set. You NEED to get them from the dealer.

Thanks for the info, that helps alot. That explains why no one has the parts.

Well, I should be able to buy the parts from the dealership and install them myself. It looks pretty simple.
