Exhuast Rattling....Cat??????

My exhaust rattles when ever I let off the gas or when I shift gears. It sounds like the problem is comming from my cat. I was wondering if it was my cat or if it could be the oxygen sensor???

Thanks

There are a bunch of things.

It could be the cat.

It could be the heat shields under the car.

It could be something else is loose.

It could be something is broken.

Best bet is to look under the car and see if you can see anything, then go from there.

Dude - take it to a muffler shop and have them look at it... I'm sure they'll find out what's rattling in about 42.8 seconds.

Yo yo, same shat happened to me.... U gotta remember that the car is like 10-15 yrs old so there could be holes in ur stock exhaust and cat. When I went to the muffler shop to install my new apexi n1 duals after the rattling began, they showed me the old one and there were multiple holes in the exhaust and cat itself. So you`ll probably need one or the other, and possibly both. btw i got a high flow cat from heavythrottle which works great- Andre

I double check the heat shields. They're made out of this cheap aluminum crap and can break really easy. My 240 had one that was loose when I test drove it but the dealer's mechanic couldn't find the problem so I got the car for $8200 (blue book was $13,500), and my car was only 4 yrs old when I got it.

i have the same problem. i thought it was the shield on the cat, but it wasn't...then the sound got worse and the shield on the cat fell off, but the original rattle was still there (that's when i found out it wasn't the shield on the cat lol)...now i've come to the conclution that it's the shielding on the pipe as it leaves the engine bay (i've actually gotten under the car and listened to it and that's where it's comming from)...i'm not doing anything about it until i get the apexi n1 dual.

i have the rattle too. around 2200-2500 and sometimes 3000ish rpms.
its the heat shield on the exhaust manifold.
havent taken it off yet cuz it only does it when it wants to but i still hate it none the less.
