Gas Gauge spazzes out

Well a couple of nights ago getting off the freeway I noticed my gas gauge said empty even though I had just put $20 in. Well it's been getting progressively wierder, as now it goes completely under E.

The strange thing is that when I'm actually ruuning low on gas the light will come on, but yet it won't come on when it just freaks out and dips under.

None of my other gauges are having any problems, just this one. What's frustrating is that its on and off. Yesterday on my way home from work it was under e the whole time. Now today on the way in it never goes below 1/4.

Any Ideas?

When I'm just sitting at a light it sinks to this:

When I start driving again it creeps up to this:

i dont have a solution i just think its funny how it goes way past. Um try another guage cluster or maybe check out wireing.

Come to think of it.. There is a meter or ball type thing thats in your gas tank that tells you or shows you how low you are, if in fact it gets stuck(it happends) like gums up then maybe it got stuck or doesnt work. Try taking a rubber mallet to the gas tank and fixing it dont break stuff just tap it. This happened to my mom's Jetta. Just the car wouldnt start had it thinking it was empty when it wasent. But for the guage going so low it might just be the cluster.
