hey wikd240,

maybe you or someone else can help me out. i own a 90 240 and put an 89 motor in it with less miles. ok the problem, when its cold it wont idle it just stalls right out. but when its warm, even driving it for 5 min. it will idle but pulse between 800and up to 2000rpm's. i have tried everything that i can think of, so now im stuck. got any ideas?

that sounds like a vaccume problem to me... like there is a vaccume leak somewhere in the idel circuit... dunno where to start with that one other than using a butaine torch that is not light...turn the butane on real low and wave it around the vaccum lines... the motor will speed up if there is a leak... other than that i have no idea... i will have to look at the emissions systems on the kae motor again to get some more ideas...

so i dont light the torch just use the butaine? hey thanks, like i said im stuck. i got a vacuum diagram, almost all my vacuums were in the wrong spot, pluged em in and it didnt change anything. what controls the idle? not were to adjust it but like the egi....ect? maybe that would be a place to start pulling them off? thanks again

yeah dont light the torch...
dont need a fire as well... i know this might sound kind of dumb... but one thing i did when i installed the motor in my 89 was to reverse the fuel lines... it ran like hell... check that as well... i am still lookin for the emission control diagram for the 89 motor... i had it somewhere but that was like 6 months ago...

alright i started installing my header today and my (egi) tube, it runs from the exhaust manifold into the back of the intake manifold was broken in half, so i dont know if that had anything to do with it but i am going to replace it. ill let you know what happens as soon as its all back together.

i pretty much got it fixed. it idles and runs good but the exhaust sounds makes it sound like its misfiring. it sounds really rough even though the idle is great, any ideas? i have a header and gutted cat and option muffler if that makes a diffrence. and it did it before and after the header and gutted cat.

well, i took it to a bmw mechanic and he played with the vacuum lines, swaped two hoses that was cracked, told me if he was me to gut the cat or buy a new one, so i gutted. now i have to plug one hole on my new header, but other than that it's good.

go to a hardware stroe that sells home gas fittings... the piece you want is a 15/16 flair to a 3/4 pipe fitting... i dont know what the threads are called but it is a natural gas line fitting and a standard pipe thread cap...
