ka running like ish

so basically my ka is running like junk. it starts fairly easily, but once you get going, it sometimes pulls hard, and others it just is dead. not sure what the problem is, but i think it might be with the transmission? because when i get going, and stop, it bogs the engine down to like 500 rpm, which is crazy low, and it feels like the tranny is slipping, and sometimes i hear the engine rev, and its a little bit later when the tach moves. its an auto tranny, and im pretty sure i broke it, but would this possibly be the cause? a slipping tranny sending bad tach signals to the ecu, which then dumps the improper amount of fuel? or am i crazy? oh, and it was pulling fine like 2 weeks ago.

thats just my best guess, because it seems like its bogging down the engine to the point of it almost killing it. and when i first start it its fine. we'll see when i get time to source parts for the 5 speed swap and put that in.

haha. to what? i mean, i was thinking about it, but im staying KA, with N/A love, so if i eventually rebuild, its the same as a new motor. and sometimes it pulls hard as a ****.

Was the motor still cold and functioning in closed loop? I know on my camaro, it ran like dog **** until it was warm. How many miles? Torque converter slippage could be evident. Last tune up?

I would suggest to run an engine diagnostic first before assuming that it could be the tranny. If nothing shows up that it is the engine, I would then check underneath the car to all the transmission wires for the sensors. I would also check for any possible transmission leaks, and also check tranny fluid level. Look to see how dirty the fluid is.
It could just be as simple that as spark plug is bad and not firing.

i was thinking that was possible too. i was just guessing tranny because i was kinda... beating the **** out of it... haha. i cant really work on it at home right now, because my dad is a dick and believes i cant do anything myself... thats why he doesnt even know anything is wrong. and he also takes his sweet *** time, and we fight alot, so i would rather wait until he goes back to work, or check the plugs at school or summat. it has 223k miles on it, so it could be a slipping torque converter or something, or a maf... i'll start with the plugs, and then do waht big vin suggested. then take a voltmeter to the wires on the maf see if its working properly. i think it is, because sometimes its fine.

Well have you ever done a timing chain and guide replacement on the engine with that many miles (223k), the chain assembly could be worn and could eat a hole through the front cover allowing coolant to flow into the oil pan. This would cause hydrostatic lock which is a decrease in power and eventually the loss of the engine.
I would really think if it was your tranny you would start to smell it burn really bad from over heating.

^thats what was wrong with my car when i got it. it would start fine but when you went to give it gas while driving it would bog down to the point that it would die and wouldnt start back up for another 15 minutes. when i tore it down the guides were shot and the chain had wore a whole in the front cover and was dumping coolant into the oil pan.

Check the radiator first if you are low on coolant, more than likely coolant could be leaking. You can also tell by your next oil change if you see coolant in the oil.

aight, i have a baseball game tonight, and if we lose, season is over, which means i have time. so maybe tomorrow night, i'll check the coolant levels, and i have everything for an oil change already, so i'll do that too. and i'll pull my spark plugs, and see if they are ****ed up. if that doesnt fix it, then i guess i'll pull the front cover, and remove the lower chain guide, which should be removed anyways. if its worn a hole in my front cover, would i have to get a new one? or just take it to a machine shop to get it welded?

the slipping can be the torque converter...
