Question KA24E revs slow?

Hi, I just bought a 1989 240sx with 196,000 miles on the clock. And the whole timing for the engine has been replaced at 132,000. Well the engine revs slow, Does anyone know why its reving slow? And what I could replace to fix the problem, any help or tips at all would be greatly appreciated thanks.

How low does it rev? I'm assuming you mean idle right?

It idles at about 800-900 but when I rev it up it barely gets to 4k rpm and then to go past 4k rpm you have to have it floored for a good amount of time, i've never reved it past 4k since it seems like something is wrong. I don't want to push my luck.

Well I am hoping the engine isn't about to die it does have 196k miles on it without a rebuild so if I have to replace not that big of a deal.

does a rebuild on a ka24 with that much mileage really make a difference on how it runs? is it gonna run smoother?

Yeah, with rebuilding an engine, you get basically a new engine with the same bottom end. Rebuilding an old engine can make it last even longer. My friend's dad has an F150 from who knows when and just rebuilt the engine. It's running over 300k miles.

Well, you won't get a new engine if you look for one. However, when you rebuild, it's like getting a new engine. Better than getting a used one because you start from square 1 again.
