MAFS Question

*95 KA in 91 Coupe* in my pursuit of putting my Apexi intake on, i found i didn't have an s14 mafs (which is the only ka maf it fits) so i decided to buy one so that i can hook everything up, now when searching i didn't establish whether i needed the pigtail for it given that i found out that both s13/s14 are 4 prong male connectors (on the maf itself), what i didn't realize is that tho they are the same type (i guess u could say) the plugs are not shaped the same therefore the s13 maf pigtail (which is on my car) will not plug in to my recently purchased s14 maf....so now my new ?'s:

1. does anyone have a pigtail so i can just switch them?

2 (if this is easier, but probably sounds stupid) can i swap the plugs off of each maf and put them on the other

any help would be much appreciated, im just trying to get this stupid thing going

to make it simple, you could just get the intake adapter from an s13 which may require some drilling in such if you want to really use it. if you have that 95( obdII) ka in a 91 you converted back to OBDI so you cant run a s14 obdII maf. If that is not the answer you seek, let me know

this is the part highlighted

well the engine was in when i bought the car...but it is the 95 ka and he used the original s13 harness if im not mistaken (hence the use of the s13 maf)...now as far as using a s14 obdII maf, well the obdII wasn't put in vehicles untill 96, there for the 95 should still be an obdI and the maf i just bought is from a 95 so that shouldnt be a problem, but i could be mistaken

and lastly the problem with using the adapter, im not sure how u would hook the adapter to a Apexi Power Intake given this problem:

are you using an s13 or s14 ecu? depending on the ecu you must use the corresponding mafs. as biggamehit mentioned there are inexpensive adapters availible

yea im sure he used an s13 ecu given that when most people do the 95 Ka swap the s13 harness is easier to use (is there a way i can go look and be 100%) and if what u said is the case, how do people use z32 mafs without the ecu....my understanding would be to cut the wire of the plug (pigtail) and rewire the pigtail of the new maf

the other thing is with the way the Power Intake is designed it doesn't look like it will go with any simple adapter given that the back side of the filter is flush where something like the K&N Filter curves around where to put a clamp on

yea... as far as wiring goes, you could give it a shot. I am currently running an maxima N60 MAF with my setup so that my ecu will flow more fuel ( smoothed out with safc). I just dont know the effects of running an s14 maf with an s13 ecu.

yea that filter looks crazy..... whats are the gains really??

if you really must use it. you could get a sheet of metal. cut it and have it tig welded to the adapter i posted above and drill holes accordingly.

well my first try will be the wiring idea and hope for the best, if that doesn't work (i'll prolly have to first get a new ecu ....) then i might try the plate...

as far as the hp gain...they tested this one and some others and this one is proven to have the greatest filtrationfor the hp boost....it is projected to make an extra 14bhp

here is the test:Air Filter Test

you cant swap the ecu if you are using an s13 harness. they are different.

the obdII switch was made mid Dec as with all change overs to cars.

they have shorten adapters that will fit that. come to think of it. i even have an adapter in my parts bin that would fit the pattern in red. ill check and post pics if i find it.

the pattern in yellow would bolt up to the s13 adapter for sure. i was just looking at it wrong. its just like looking at an universal 4 lug wheel you cant really eye the pattern unless you look at it hard
15 bucks ill give it to you

ps
I know the paint skills are awesome. thank you

do u happen to have a picture of the adapter....see how this filter works, the back of the adapter hooks up (via the bolt holes that u have outlined with the yellow line) to an apexi adapter which in turn hooks up the s14 maf so if u have an adapter which will take place of the apexi adapter, then can u post a pic of it and if it looks like it will work, i'll buy it

i thought it was, you'll need to have your ecu tuned then. and by the way mods, why do links get censored?

never mind then.

but if i were to boost my car i'd go with a super charger only because of the fact that it can be done with less modifications than a turbo.
