magic oil?

hey guys. ill get right to the point. the other day one of my valves or more started ticking. for a week i dodnt know what the f was wrong since my motor has about 20k on it. so today i checked the oil and there wasnt any! like nothing on the dip stick. so i went to get some oil put it in and went for a short drive. when i came back the ticking was gone.

now my question is where can my oil be going? i have no leaks, no smoke, and i checked the coolant and nothing. so what do you guys think? where can my oil be going?

Your engine may be slowly burning away the oil. Also, give your engine a good wash down and look for a slow, slow leak. My other suggestion is that the oil leak may be landing on the exhaust but with a 240 I would say that isn't possible.

a small about of oil being burnt in the cylinders would produce a very noticeable amount of smoke. so if there is no smoke coming from the exhaust then it has to be leaking somewhere.

Nope..... You sir sound like you have a cracked radiator. I had it happen to me when I was 16 and threw my first rod on my little civic. The coolant leaks out and the oil makes its way into the cooling system and also leaks. I would look for any fluid leaks at all. And let us know what find. If not get an oil consumption test. If its burning that much that fast you shold be able to see it in the form of smoke (blue). Did you look under the car. Sould also be a rear main seal. Get under there with some heavy degreaser. Top off all fluids and run it for about 5 minutes and look for a sign

i had a 87 Nissan Pulsar do the same thing, no leaks or anything but the oil seems to disappear in 2 weeks. i had it checked at Nissan Service Center and they said i had low compression and the oil was slowly being burnt up. you don't notice any smoke for slow burning oil. they had me use a thicker type of oil which slowed the process down but eventually it will use it up. had to sell the car. and now i have my 240.

just because you don't see smoke doesn't mean you're not burning oil. it's normal for engines to burn some oil, but as fast as how it was burning mine was not normal, which i guess is the same in your case.

hope this helps.

take the breather separator (what the PCV screws into, under the intake) off and look inside to see if it is filled with oil.

I had a 95 Galant that was burning up oil. You can't see it at idle RPM until you're burning roughly a quart every few hundred miles or so (from my experience). I drove that car to 235,000 miles and eventually it got to burning oil so bad... I started it in winter and drove off. The cloud was so big when I cold started it and ran it cold, a cop pulled me over leaving a bar. He thought maybe my engine was on fire and wanted to make sure I was alright.

You have a leak more than likely through the front or rear seal. When the oil is fresh it's hard to notice that it would be leaking from one of those seals. But I would believe that is you problem. The front seal is more than likely what it is since it usually leaks when the engine is running. You would notice more oil leaking from the rear seal between the bell housing and engine when the engine isn't running.

I know this is an uncalled for change in topic, but be careful with the Ksports. I have heard horror stories about them. The stances I have were under a thousand shipped and they're a great set of coilovers. Megans are good too. Just do some research on the Ksports first, thats all I ask.
