I found a part of my wiring harness that got ate up by the belts. It was frayed and all the wires were grounded to each other. I pulled it back to inspect it and it sparked. I cut the bad part of the harness off and respliced them correctly. I tested the coil and its fine. I don't know what else it could be. Someone noted to check the ignitor, but how can I tell? I don't feel like shoveling out 100 bucks on a part that may not fix the problem.

dude thats not good at all....... to put it simple the last time i seen that happen... I had to re-wire an entire car from headlight to tail light... very educational but its a pain in the *** bro.....


you might wanna trace that back and see how far it grounded out... Ill be honest. you will probably need a new engine harness and you may be looking at a new body harness. you have to make sure all wiring is secure from moving parts..

I dont think it will be that neccessary to redo the whole harness, it was just on the very end near the ignitor/coil circuit. Im 90% sure its just he ignitor just fried.

It ran the other day, so it's not too many things that can go wrong. Redoing the whole harness may be easier at this point.

yea that may be so. but electrical wiring is no joke... i have seen 3 burned 240s in the junk yard and they all came from faulty wiring.

if you don't have to do the entire harness that would be awesome, but if part of it is messed up, you have no choice. just take a razor if you have not and scale back the wire loom a bit and see how far the burnt wire goes back

I pulled the wire back, lucky no wires were burned. They simply were chewed up, so it only stretched maybe 2 inches total. I cut those off and respliced them. Im sure since the battery was still hooked up, when I moved those wires around, they grounded each other and poped the ignitor.
