oil pan

well i just became the 3rd owner of a 1990 240sx ka24e i changed the oil for the first time today and went by the book i get under the car and i saw that someone had missed the jakpoint and used the oil pan instead. id like to know if anyone has removed there pan and the difficulty of the job also same for the oil pump ( might as well since i got the pan out)-thanks

i tryed once to remove the pan but i could get it off. the pick up tube was in the way. i unbolted the engine from the mounts and jacked the engine up as much as i could but still no luck.

i couldn't belive it, after all that still not enough clearance. i must have forgot to do something because i find it hard to belive that you'd have to remove the engine from the car to get the oil pan off.

sorry i can give you any pointer, just my failed attempt.

Theres a thread on nico... But heres what you have to do.

After supporting the car in the air, loosen the motor mounts (and possibly tranny mounts, I cant remember). Pull the motor off the mounts enough o bet to the pan bolts. Lower the pan and move it foreward a bit, and use a 12mm (iirc) ratchet and extension to remove the pickup tube, then take the pan off. Simple. As far as the oil pump, ya gotta take the entire front timing cover off, which entails taking off the crank pulley, fan clutch..etc. Might as well do a timing job at that point.

LA is right to the point when you have to loosen the motor mounts and tranny mounts, other than that i never did when i have to fix my dented oil pan. Well i think you do have to move the motor a bit out of the way in a sence but not that much work took maybe only 2 hours total time, make sure you torque it to spec and in correct pattern with some high heat silicone and a new gasket. thats what i did at least.

I couldnt remove my oil pan my first try. In fact, when we swapped my motor, we had to cut the mounts off, beause the nuts ended up rounding off. Nismo stiff mounts ftw when your buddy thats helping you witht he swap works at the dealership...

me and tehott240 had to pull his oil pan and the only way to get clearance was to lossen the motor mounts and tranny mounts then jack it up and far as we could then you have to drop one side of the crossmember. a beast lol

can you safely remove the whole crossmember? because couldnt you just remove the crossmember and skip having to lossen the motor monts?
