My room mate and I both have 1994 240sx convertibles, and he had a brand new KA24de put into it, along with a new thermostat, new radiator and everything, and the car overheats when it sits idling for a while... I'd appreciate any suggestions on what i should check or if theres something i'm overlooking.. thanks.

Was the waterpump replaced as well?

yea make sure the radiator is flowing and the fans are working. If all is good then you may have a bad headgasket.

the water pump has been replaced as well and the fan works, but the engine is brand new and i dont see why the head gasket would be bad...

well if it was replaced with the engine, then yea there should be no reason it is. was the motor rebuilt or what? maybe something is stuck inside??

are you sure your gauge is working properly?

did you bleed the radiator, air in the radiator will make your car over heat check that and if not do a compression test that will let you know if you have a bad head gasket

well, its a brand new engine with a 3 year 75,000 mile warranty, and my buddy had a shop do it for him, because of our location in an apartment complex, we dont have a garage..other wise we would have swapped in a SR20 by ourselves.. I'm going to have to check on the radiator...


I was talking to another 240sx owner a while ago and he was telling me that it could be something thats right under the cluster under the steering wheel... but i dont remember the name... anyone have any clue what i might be talking about?

this is definitely a bleeding problem ...

if you did all that and not bled the system right then it will overheat during idle

BLEED IT RIGHT and then it will run fine

Your cooling system, should be a air relief valve on your engine near the radiator hose.

its 10mm right where the upper hose leads into the engine. jack your car up , open your radiator cap and run your car for 10 minutes. don't forget to put some rags around becuase it will spill. just wait for bubbles to come out untill no bubbles....

i had same problem....everyone kept saying BLEED IT BLEED IT....and i just kept on asking. bleed what?
