rattle in valvecover??

so basically, when i start my car, it rattles from within the valve cover, and its kind of late and i cant really work on it, so does anyone have any ideas what this could be? it almost sounds like there is something loose just getting knocked around. wtf.?

RuizXIII 03-25-2007 08:46 PM

YEAH NUKKA!!!! u got the car
Hey check to see if its the timing chain. I know most of the guys on here just remove the top timing chain guide. Perhaps that would help (?)
Congrats broseff

cronux 03-25-2007 09:03 PM

yea, thats what my dad suggested, timing chain rattling. (hes 6 hours away, at work)

sr91240 03-25-2007 09:17 PM

yea my chain was hittin the top guide so i took it off and it stopped

cronux 03-25-2007 09:21 PM

aight, ill do that tomorrow. after school. and after baseball practice.. damn.

sr91240 03-25-2007 09:23 PM

ha thats probly goin to feel like the longest day of your life lol

Biggamehit 03-25-2007 10:07 PM

actually bro its the upper and lower guide. i order to get the lower guide. you must remove the distributer and take the front cover off.

RuizXIII 03-26-2007 05:45 AM

Ha well either way its the timing chain and on of her 3 guides hahaha

cronux 03-26-2007 09:15 AM

so just take the top guide off completely?

MS!3 03-26-2007 10:46 AM

take the top guide and the side guide off, the one where the distributor is at. that should stop the noise. youd know if it was your lower guides so im pretty sure you wont have to go through that.

Biggamehit 03-26-2007 11:23 AM

that was recall by nissan an should be taken off. both have broken before

cronux 03-26-2007 11:29 AM

ah alright, thanks guys. i just got her and drive and its rattling and i was like wtf... so its nothing major. woot. now i just wnat to get home, and fix her. then we can go driving.

RuizXIII 03-26-2007 11:41 AM

yo Randy Savage, whats the mileage on her again?

cronux 03-26-2007 05:32 PM

222k. woot. a **** ton for a 95. but anyways, i got the probelm taken care of, after about an hour... (im not a mechanic, im 15.) and i also need a new valve gasket, both the inner and the outer. but yea, like you guys said, the top chain guide was broken off, and rattling. (just happened yesterday, on the drive home) and its runnin fine now. thanks guys.

Yeah this guy treats himself to nothing but the best. His pr0n collection is the best in Bossier. And soon to be WI.

cronux 03-28-2007 08:40 AM

haha. well, i went to ricer lake, they have an advanced, a bumper to bumper, a carquest, and a napa, but all of them are tiny, and andvance ordered me a gasket, and should be here today, so 1 day shipping ftw.?

zenkislider 03-28-2007 08:51 AM

yes 1 day shipping saves me at advanced lol.

so is there any junk yards in rice lake? if not how many is eau claire?
i live for junkyards!

RuizXIII 03-28-2007 09:34 AM

Is there rice in the lake?

Biggamehit 03-28-2007 11:02 AM

bro those thick rubber gaskets are re-usable. just inspect it from cracks and rips. Make sure that you apply your choice of high temp RVT to the front and rear sections (base) befor you seat the gasket, if you dont, oil will leak out. and also remember your bolt pattern ill post pics i made for you

(note) thats a Front-Wheel(FF) drive KA

this is what i have been doing for years. hand tighten first then just tighten in using (average)girlie's strength.

cronux 03-28-2007 11:18 AM

yea, my gasket was broken in like 10 places and hard as a rock. not so reusable.

Biggamehit 03-28-2007 11:19 AM

HA HA HA yea you need another one lol

cronux 03-28-2007 11:37 AM

yea. i took the valve cover off to take off the timing chain, and both the inner and outer ones were rock hard and like shattered. so im slapping the new one in after school.

cronux 03-28-2007 06:16 PM

haha, she's purrin now.

Biggamehit 03-28-2007 06:56 PM

cool cool coooool

sr91240 03-28-2007 07:01 PM

sweet you got it fixed, damn nissans with their chains and guides lol

cronux 03-28-2007 07:04 PM

222k and runnin strong. woot. i have a little bit of a rattling problem from my rear end, and its not the muffler, thats my next issue. then imma see why my running lights arent working, but the brake lights are..? (my tail running lights)

RuizXIII 03-28-2007 07:22 PM

at least your strobe light and neons work

cronux 03-28-2007 07:57 PM

haha... yea. does anyone know why my rear running lights dont go on? is it a fuse? (if so which one... lol)

RuizXIII 03-28-2007 08:01 PM

Jordan knows but he is too busy watching teh pr0n
but yeah you might wanna check the fuse, they tend to blow from time to time. Or perhaps a relay
