My stock '91 DE motor started with 3 degrees of overlap. I used a JWT gear to retard the exhaust cam 5 degrees for a new total of 8 degrees overlap (intake 1ATDC and exhaust 9ATDC) and it really woke up the top-end and I don't really feel any loss of bottom end. I have a second JWT gear for the intake and I'm tempted to set the intake/exhaust timing as close as I can get to the KA24E motor, which has 15 degrees overlap, with intake opening 3BTDC and exhaust closing 12ATDC. Anyone try something close to this?
