spark check?

hello all,

i finaly got my 93 240sx, but she will not start. i hear the fuel pump turning on and i know the timing is right. the fuel filter was also replaced.

im thinking it is a spark issue. is there a way to test for spark? (i know thats a n00b question but i dont care.) is there some way to use a multi meter and check the wires while someone starts her? and could it be the coil has gone bad? (if so how do i check that too?)

thanks guys! glad to be apart of the 240 club

To check for spark on each plug.
first u take #1 plug and wire out put the spark plug inn the end of the plug wire then lay it close to the valve cover but not touching the valve cover but as close as you can get it. then turn the key to start and look for a spark between the spark plug and the valve cover. if there is spark u got spark, proceed with each plug the same way. remember to reinstall each plug before going to the next one.

if you have acces to one you can also you an inductive pick up timeing light. just place the pick up clip on a wire while pressing the trigger. if the light flashess countinusly then you have spark.
now, this will only tell you if your getting spark to the plug and that's it.
another way to test for spark to the wires is to take the wire off the plug stick a screwdriver. BEFORE I COUNTENUE I MUST SAY THAT THIS IS DANGERUS IF NOT DONE WITH CAUTION. but in the same fashion as posted above, while holding the PLASTIC handle place the screwdrive close to the valve cover and crank the engine.
again, this will only tell you if your getting spark to the plug. but if you know the plugs are fine and don't want to waste time takeing them out and putting them back on then this is any easy way to see if your getting any spark.
