tapping noise=bad?

ok i have had my 95' 240 for about 6 months and from the day i got it, there has been a tapping noise. its coming from the area of the timing chain. It hasn't got any worse since the day i brought it home, does anybody else have this noise? i had the valve cover off changing the gasket but i couldnt really pinpoint the origin of the noise w/ it on. i do know it's coming from the front of the valve cover though.

I have that same noise in both my 240's. I thought that it was a valve issue. I know they are some issues with the timing chains in these cars, but don't know if that is the noise.

i thought it was a valve knock at first too, but when i took the valve cover off too see what was located in the front of the head, its just the timing chain and this metal box(i guess is a chain guard of some sort). i'm going to see if i can mess around with the tensioner. If after i tighten the chain up and it still makes the noise im gunna get stillen cam sprockets and a new timing chain to see if it fixes the problem, it's starting to get on my nerves. any other opinions out there?

well i know from courtesynissan.com that they revised the whole timing kit with the guides, so it might be the problem, but i'm scared of whose going to do it. Its a lot of work to do.

They revised the whole timing kit? this is important, it might save me alot of time and trouble. in my searching i've come across this special type of camshaft. is there an upgraded exhaust camshaft for the DOHC motor? its pretty wierd, all the sites i have went into don't say much about it. ANYWAY, back to topic, do you know where i could get some more info about this revised timing stuff?
BTW, here's a link with the little thing about the camshaft...

I think the issue affects both the e and de motors. That bulletin is only for the de motors, but they redesigned both timing chains.

the infamous timing chain thing.
there is a little sumthin out there for the dual cams.
i did mine(twice) in my driveway with normal hand tools. not a real hard job, just a pain in the ***.
if you're hearin a tapping sound then your tensioner might not be functioning properly. if you pull all the accesory stuff off(power steering , fan, all belts, and brackets) then set engine to TDC pull distributor, oil pump. remove the 4 front oil pan bolts, and losen the next two( behind the removed ones -one on each side) you should be able to pull timing cover off. (don't forget the crank pulley) then you can inspect. thats gona be the olny way to really check and be sure.
i'm not sure how well cam sprockets will help quiet up things.
it's surgery time. if you dont check it soon it could get BAD, TRUST ME.
the job is expensive, do it your self.
Import i'll do yours

the new driver side guide isn't 100% plastic anymore. thats like the olny change to the kit for single cams
go HERE see how that works

I will be doing mine when I get the house. I want to have light and not have to rush. It seems like a straightforward job.
