I was just sitting around daydreaming about an All Motor Mustang I used to drive back in High School and I remembered about one of the Mods I did on it. It was a Throttle Body Spacer and I remember it gave good gains but I don't remember seeing anything about one for the 240 so I did some searching and saw this.


I'm waiting for a Bored Throttle Body now so I think I'm gonna pick this up and have it enlarged for my New TB and I'll post before and after results. But I'll tell you guys now that will be a while.

...okay.... so what would it do for OUR motors? seems pointles to me, cuz its for OUR throttle bodies, not the 50mm on the L motors

 

Spacers increase the velocity of the incoming air making more power.

I'm skeptic, a spacer would be cool if you ran a carb'ed engine, but would it help with a fuel injected? hmm, it would prbably act like one of those tornado insterts in my opinion.

 

Dude those things add like 20hp...why wouldn't you buy it? It's only $60.

My 5 liter Mustang was Fuel Injected with a Saleen Intake Manifold and the Spacer I put on that made 7whp, and that Manifold flowed awesome already. For the price I have no problem taking one for the Team. Looking at the Stock KA Manifold I think it'll help. Google Throttle Body Spacers and all sorts of Designs and Theorys will come up as to why they work.

 

Not only does it increase velocity. It also increases the volume of plenum size. This will increase throttle responce, and high end HP.

 

I don't really open my 240 up too much, so if it's not low end hp, i'm not too interested, but i got a good question, seeing that Big V is the 240 guru, how can you increase torque without increasing horsepower too much more. here's the deal, my ol lady wants more torque to her mustang v6, she hates that my 240 spanks it in take off and such, but her v6 has less torque than horsepower, how can you change that?

 

Tell her to put a Stroked 351 Windsor in it, and strip the Interior bare.

 

That is a hard thing to do, because the engine design was made to produce output with what devices come stock. HP is free inertia. Torque is instant power. So no matter what, more than likely when you add a device that ENHANCES any type of momentum you will get one with the other.
The only true way I have seen increased torque without increasing HP is simply by retarding the distributor. Changing the time in which detonation occurrs will create 2 different forms of power. Bumping the timing (retarding) closer to TDC will increase torque variables. Advancing timing and moving it further from TDC will increase HP. I would not recomend retarding timing too much any more than 3 degress. (that is what is recomended by smog technicians).
Retarding the timing can sometimes be healtheir for an engine and good for emissions as long as the proper modifications have been done. Retarding the timing may also make the car feel a little slower in higher RPM, which it probably will be. (But ehh you wanted to trade one for the other). Then adding a few bolt ons can give it that edge that I guess you and her want.

Joh when I mentioned that the spacer also increases throttle responce, that is a form of lowend torque. The spacer increases all forms of power through out the entire power band.

HAHA Miked808 I looked closely at that TB spacer on grays website, that is the same one that is ment for the 5.0litre mustang engines...... Ford was the only one that designed that port on the side of the spacer.

 

I wonder how much a custom one would cost? That was some good info. Vin.
