timing and distributor

i had to replace my distributor and i kno that it is off but my question is how to make sure it is in the correct spot and i cannot figure out how to make my car idle, i have 4 yr old gas mixed with 91 octane and of course i kno that the timing is off but how can i make sure that the idle is set right if i cannot get it to idle lol

fix one problem at a time, the 4 year old gas. you got jello for fuel. my bet is thats whats making your engine idle like shat.

go search google for the factory service manual, its out there.....
otherwise cant he just get the crank pully to TDC and then put in the distributor where its on plug #1???....thats what i did, but its 1 tooth off, so i just gotta pull it out and move it over one....but i would think that EXTREMELY old fuel has somethin to do with it

I moved my dist. one tooth over and now it is sitting at around 25-30* BTDC, and if i move it back one, it is too far the other way, do i need to unplug a connector somewhere so the computer isnt trying to adj. the timing for me....i cant get it to 20* and so it runs rough at idle and all the way up to 1800rpm in every gear

help

its the furthest to the right (drivers side)...there should be 6 notches on your crank pulley from left to right (pass to driver) it should be 5* after TDC, 0* TDC, and then 5*, 10* 15* 20* all Before TDC, looking at the sticker on the hood it says 20* BTDC, so as its spinning counterclock wise you want the very last mark...hope this helps

do yourself a favor and dl your Fact. Serv. Manual

not sure exactly where the timing section is, but i have faith
