timing SOHC??

hey guys, to make a long story short when i was replacing my head gasket i was using a tool to adjust the timg chain tensioner and the tool broke and part of it fell into my engine...well my dumb a#s cousin started my engine and it just started knocking really bad.

well now the car is in my garage and i pulled the front cover off and the guide was broken on one side so i bought the piece i needed and replaced the broken guide and put everything back together and nowit wont start but it turns over and almost starts but now i have intake back fire and a weird noise???i did all my timing perfect..no1 piston, had the distributor and oil pump fit together right and everything..im so confused.

if anyone can possibly tell me what to do or give me some advice, i would really appreciate it. thank you

you fit it all together properly, but did you get a timing light and twist the distributor to put your timing back to where it needs to be. if you have the distributor off 1 tooth it will run different.......
