water problem

i had to put a new alternator belt on today and when it ripped of yesterday i developed a over heat problem also, so i parked right there. so today when i put the belt on and a new top radiator hose b/c i thought i had busted also. well now i find out that there is some little metal line right beside the throttle body has a little hole in it and that where my water is pretty much steaming. i drove it home about 6 miles and temp was fine but i dont know what that line is any ideas thanks in advance

Long answer to your question. When I owned a 1980 200sx, there was a recall to install hoses and a metal piece to the throttle body of the engine. The problem was during cold weather, the cold air would freeze in the tb and it could stick open, causing the car to go out of control. The hose routes coolant from the system to heat the tb so it won't freeze. I think that after that, Nissan put it on all of the tb's to solve the problem.
Hope that helps, a lot of people bypass the system.

yeah that's about it as far as practical functionality in cold weather. but in a warm climate it only raises the temp of incoming air.

i finally got a hose on it today added some water to it and started it up everything seemed to be fine. drove around for about 15min and temp gauge was high. so i pulled over and i had water running into the overflow. i let it set for a while then added more water now i started it up again and running fine temp gauge at norm, so i take a drive and everything is fine now so im not sure what the problem was. any ideas?

the leak probably allowed air into the colling system. it should be fine now that the leak is fixed and you refilled the radiator.
