Ok so i got an 89 240sx SOHC and i bought it in non-running condition and i changed the timing chain, timing cover, cleaned head, etc

Now the job is done and it doesnt want to start! it cranks but doesnt turn on. I check the ground, theres spark, fuel and the air sensors n everything is plugged in.

What can be the prob??? Im stumped

 

Well you have the import things now are they all timed right? Your CAS (or Distributor in the right position) timing set right? loosen the the distibutor have someone crank the car while you rotate the distirbutor and see if it will crank. could be one of the problems?? Just a thought I have not touched a KA in 13years.

 

Yeh the timing is set. Chain and Distributor and still nothing :-\

When it cranks, it sounds "weak", not a constant crank. I checked for a bad ground but everything is good.

 

Hmmmm This may sound stupid but Battery? Plug wires, clean the injectors, Change fuel Filter, I had the foam break down in my tank of my 88 s13 with a CA clog everything up could not get it to start. Just throwing out ideas I would have to be there to really get an idea.

 

another stupid suggestion but did you check if the dizzy timming may be 180? good compression and all that good stuff?

 

check battery and terminals ...

is it cranking, or is it jsut going "click click click"
click click click could be a bad starter, however "whr whr whr" (engine turning over) is something else.

 

its cranks and i got new battery and terminals are clean

 

Run a diagnostic on the ecu.

 

my bro was reading the FSM and he said for us to do that too but we found out what may be the cause of the problem...

We where timing the distributor (by the oil pump) and we noticed the oil pan has a HUGE dent in it and the oil pump isnt taking any oil into the head. So im gonna change the oil pan with a new one and see what happens

hopefully thats what the problem is, what do you guys think?

 

not having oil wouldnt cause the engine not to start though, it just starves it of oil

 

When we took the new oil pump off, it prob. had like 2 drops of oil in it... so there is no oil pressure right? (this was after trying to turn the car on and cranking)

I dunno if im right or wrong on this, but a car wont start without oil pressure right?

 

how about looking at the 240sx manual?
when u change out the timing chain u have to set every thing back to zero that means the crank and cams have to be pointing up and when u install the all this together u should follow the manual's instructions. u might knocked the timing off by a lil when u reinstalled the timing chain. these cars are easy to solve can only be so many things that can make a car run ****ty.

 

i had a similar problem, my it seriously took about 3-4 hours of checking everything before i saw that my timing was 180 out, seriously check it before you start taking the engine apart again

 

run a compression test to see if ur even getting any..

 

its not chain timing, that ish is set perfect...

imma try that compression test
