Well, I was offered an 89 240sx in trade for my crx si. I haven't done much to it. Has a crappy pacesetter exhaust, crappy air intake. needs normal rust fixed. Valves went at 195k, got a 70k d16a6 waiting to go in.

I've had a broken leg so I haven't been able to put it in. I'm not really tired of the crx, I love it, but to upgrade to a 240sx would be sweet. Hopefully I can find someone around that'l know a little about dropping a sr20det in since the sx i'm looking at has 170k on it.

Yeah I'll have no problem replacing it. Just swapping one a6 for another.

the a6 is only a couple hundred pounds, maybe 350 complete with manifolds etc...if that. It's a small engine, only sohc. If I could get rid of my CRX as is for a good deal I'd sell you my 70k a6 for like $350.

Nah. Del Sol guy flaked, decided he was gunna turbo it. He did sell me his complete d16a6 ($1400 invested) built head with a 3 angle valve job, double valve springs 1mm oversize valves and a delta 272 cam and a couple other things.. Gunna try and put it on my 70k mile engine this afternoon i think, got all the stuff I need. Of course, I might be interested in re-selling the head. But I def. need to keep the block itself for my car.

how built is that head? for 1400 he coulda had a z6 full engine put in, or thats the cost of a b16. . thats insane.

You gotta turbo it now thats it's built?

it's very built
port and polish
3 angle valve job
milled .040
deltal 272 cam
dual valve springs
1mm oversize valves

i think that's everything

With that and a d16y8 head gasket it'l put compression to about 9.4:1 which is still very boostable.

a z6 would be good, but if you plan on boostin' it you gutta deal with vtec timing, not to mention the extra $500 or so to get a z6 running in a crx anyway..would need new ECU, extra harness wiring, dif. distributor which is obd-1 when the CRX is non-obd (obd-0)

and a b16 will cost much more than $1400. Be lucky to get a b16 and tranny (let alone the LSD tranny) for that price. Then you gotta get new axles ~ $100-300, mounts ~$400, and wire the sucker up so vtec will work etc which comes into the ecu crap again.

SOHC has a number of advantages over the DOHC. And to do it without vtec, that's just even more impressive.

and don't worry, I didn't pay $1400 to buy the head.

I didn't think you did
And to be different than a b16 is awesome, just as I'm avoiding doing the standard sr20.

9:4:1 is very bosstable, is that your plan?

How many hp does he imagine that will puit the engine up to?

Very interesting approach.

I'd take the a6 head from you but I haven't any clue how to rip it off, I wonder if the block on the crx I have with the blown engine is fine, and I could use the head.

Did you have any upgrades on your rex?
