German Cars
Hi, I wanted to know what to expect with German cars, I've been hearing mixed things, most say they aren't very reliable. I only have experience with Japanese cars so I'm not sure. I'm looking to get a 98 BMW m3, and I'd like to know if the car is worth the investment. Basically what can I expect with a german car?

BMW's are sick. Powerful, great gearing, great handling, and fun to drive. True meaning of luxo sport. They are very reliable and can take a beating if you take care of it first. Do understand M motors ARE handbuilt and if you blow it you PAY. I just finished stripping a totaled M3 and if you need parts let me know(of course motor and tranny are gone) but little things. BTW they are pricey to hook up.
My first love is BMW but for fast hook up my 240 is just fine. I can throw it around with few worrys.

Yea, from what i've heard and seen they are great cars... luxury, handling and power/speed. Parts are expensive but it'd be sick to tune one up. Post some pics if you buy it

I would kill for a '98 M3 .... I call it my "realistic dream-car" meaning i dream of having it .. but i will have one someday. lol
Great, GREAT cars. Very fast, very responsive. Realiable, luxurious ... and they are among the safest cars. They have the best technology and handling. The frames are also pretty rigid.
plus .. WHO CAN PASS UP THE WIDE TIRES AND DUAL EXHAUST!?!
IMO, buy buy buy. You don't get a chance on a nice car like that too often.
PS. Like stated before .. they are expensive cars, but if you can back it up, then go to town!

they arnt cheap because they are only produced in germany, unlike japanese cars like honda nissan ect... they have factorys were they are made in america. German cars are shipped over here and sent to the dealerships. But i really wish they would do something new with the M3s and other cars they make. Germany has produced alot of revolutionary stuff through out history, like the rotary engine (wankel engine) a machine that makes chocolate (yumm, hershy bought that), and the panzer (tank, my dream veicle)

ave you not seen a 2005 M3 !?! They are insane looking. The wheels have an offset that puts them about a half inch outside the fenders, and they must be about 9" wide.
The front end is wider, and the rear quarters are wider.

Thanks all,especially Chiefgmsr.
I was trying to get the M3 to be a daily driver plus take a 400 mile trip to my gfs college when school starts so basically 800 miles every weekend or every other weekend. I have a Celica but I'd like to leave it in the garage while I add things to it, instead of putting so many miles on it. I really like the look of the M3.

Artic, me and you think alike. Well I would say Euro E36 becuz The hp rating is close to E46 (320hp). USDM E36 will get blown away by a E46. M3's are getting heavier and the handling is gettin worse. E30's handled the best.

lol, I've been thinking about selling my zenki and taking out a loan for an E36. It is definitely my first [realistic] choice for a car right now. You can pick one up for around 15-20k these days. I remember seeing this clip of a turbo'd E36 beat a Yamaha R1 (the bike rider wasn't the greatest though). My next choice would be a '97 911 Turbo (about $40k). German cars are not without their problems though~ sometimes stupid ****, a couple bolts for the head cover on my grandfather's 5 series kept on breaking off. As previously mentioned, the biggest barrier is price of admission... check out www.dtmpower.net
