look at this weird e-mail i got

ATTENTION BUCKET,

Before I continue, I must not fail to apologize for
any inconviniences this letter may cause you, it is
due to the urgency.

I am Barrister Tony Chuks(Esq).Solicitor. I am the
Personal Attorney to Mr. Adams Bucket a national of
your country, who used to work with Chevron Oil
Company in Nigeria. On the 21st of April 1999, my
client, his wife And their three children were involved
in a car accident along Shagamu Express Road.

All occupants of the vehicle unfortunately lost there
lives. Since then I have made several enquiries to
your embassy to locate any of my clients extended
relatives, this has also proved unsuccessful. After
these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to,
trace his relatives over the Internet, to locate any
member of his family but of no avail, hence I
contacted you.

I have contacted you to assist in repartrating the
money and property left behind by my client before
they get confisicated or declared unserviceable by the
Finance House where this huge deposits were lodged.

Particularly, the Finance House where the deceased had
valuable amount of US$9 million dollars has issued me
a notice to provide the next of kin or have the
account confisicated. And Since I have been
unsuccesfull in locating the the relatives for over 2
years now, I seek your conscent to present you as the
next of kin of the deceased since you are from the
same country so that the proceeds of this account
valued US$9 million dollars can be paid to you as his
next of Kin and then you and me can share the money
dus: 25% to you and 70% for me,while 5% should be for
expenses or tax as your government may require.

I have all necessary legal documents that can be used
to back up any claim we may make,All I require is your
honest cooperation to enable us see this transaction
through. And I guarantee that this will be executed
under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you
from any breach of the law.

Please get in touch with me by my email to enable us
discuss further.

Best regards,

Barrister Tony Chuks(Esq).

A well-known scam...

That long bull**** letter you got is what's known as a "Nigerian Letter Scam" or a "419". I don't think it was invented in Nigeria, but for some reason a lot of these scams use that country as the supposed location of the wealth. I get one of these usually once a month, always from a different "lawyer." Have a look at:

http://www.fraudaid.com/ScamSpeak/Ni...am_letters.htm

or just do a Google search for "Nigerian Letter Scam".

yes, it's a scam, they used to send snail mail, but more recently, it's actually come via email. And from what i've seen on the news, it's some wierd Nigerian equivalent to the mob doing this. Though this one sounds mmore like a ripoff of the original than the actual thing.
anyway, it's dumb... possibly one thing that is more dumb than those 'jesus loves you' emails. [no, i'm not knocking religion, i'm just saying they're sappy and not very deep. i'm not lookin to start a religious fight here]
