Vent/rant/rebuild thread time!
This week has inspired me to rebuild my KA in the next week. Why? Let me tell you in a rant.
For the past month, Ive been getting a ride to my new job from my friend David. He works overnight at a grocery store, and gets off an hour before I go to work... which worked out well. Theres one downfall though; if David takes a "nap" before picking me up, he doesnt wake until about 3pm... 5 hours after Im supposed to be at work, leaving me to get a ride from someone else.
So anyways, it has been working out fine for a while until the last few days, when he decides to fall asleep and not wake up to his phone. That was fine, others were alright giving me a ride, because its not an everyday kinda thing I ask of em.
So today, my dad comes in and tells me theyre going to be out of town today, and theyre gonna leave the key to my mom's '02 camry in case david fails to show again. Thats fine, I suppose, leaves me a backup plan or two. Im supposed to be at work on sundays at noon, when the store opens, so I call david at 10am to make sure he's awake.. to no avail.
I call him every 10mins until 11:30, at which point I abandon hope and search for the toyota key. No dice there either, so I call my mom to see where it is, and she has the original with her, and the second master is at my dad's office... which I have no key or transportation to. She says theres a copy in the cabinet as an emergency key. Sweet. So I get the key and head to the car to make sure it works, and *gasp
* it unlocks the car! Open the door, and the horn starts blaring. WTF
So i lock it and try again... to no avail. I call my parents again and they say to try this and that and none of it works.. by now I must be pissing my neighbors off.. So I try unhooking the battery to turn off the factory theft deterrent system. Hook it back up and shazam! No honking.
go to start the car, and nothing.
Apparently, when the car is locked using the remote, it activates the factory immobilizer system, which can only be deactivated by 1) the remote, or 2) a factory master key which has *gasp
* a transpoder chip in it to allow the car to start. My dad tells me to put it in neutral and push it out of the garage's way so I can take the lincoln to work, which Ill have to air up the tire on.Thats fine, theres a pump in the car.. Ill have it on the road in no time. Now to find the key. No dice their either (suprise, suprise). They're on the floorboard. Coolbeans, just start er up and.. dead battery. well f**k me in the goat a**. Call david again, no dice. Call eric, no dice. Call alex as a last resort, because his van (the beast, for obvious reasons) is a gas hog... he picks me up finally. Get to work $16 later (gas and bought him some food) and an hour and a half late (good thing they like me
)Now that I have the pieces of the puzzle for my 240, im gonna fix it, and fire david from life. seriously.
Yeah. On top of that, he owes me like $200... which if I hadnt lent it to him expecting him to pay it back in a timely manner with the added fee he said he would give me to loan it to him.... Would have been put toward getting a new plate and insurance for said 240.
thats cool. I didnt think much of where I put it at the time. I coulda killed someone and thought nothing of it when I wrote it.
But yeah, Im gonna have a complete rebuild walkthrough in another thread with losa high res pics... including header install, egr bypass... short shifter install, and possibly electric fans for dummies, VIA altima fans.
