Welp, My Birthday Was Yesterday, and here's the things I got ^_^
yeah you answered my question for the most part. i've been waiting for my current pc to die so i can put together one of my own. i figured i'd look into something different from windows while i was at it.
Nah, stick with Windows XP, it's solid, and SP3 insures that it'll remain solid for a while to come. Linux is great but not a lot of games are able to utilize the kernel and architecture. If you just want a simple machine for use on the internet and to listen to music and check email. Give Linux a shot! Hell, if you're thinking about hosting a server, rock it out as well.
As battosaii said, you don't really have to spend a lot of money to get a great gaming platform. He's content with his PC, but that's mostly because he doesn't have a G5 or G6 on his desk
