Oh, I'm well aware
I appreciate your curiosity, it allows me to explain that one of them will eventually go to my girlfriend. She likes the range, but isn't a big fan of guns. I figured if I give her something manageable and small caliber, she'll slowly become more accepting. We'll see. I come from a family of police officers and military so I'm used to everyone either having a firearm or having fired one. So, it's a bit weird to see someone so against them. But she likes going to the range? That is just . . .weird . . .LOL!
And yes, I'm living everything you're saying about Hi-Points. It's a bulky weapon, and it aint a looker, my Glock was such a beauty in my opinion and don't get me started on Italian guns . . . at any rate . . .yeah it's a big ol girl, but apparently, she likes being big.
LOL!
Every single review I've read, from independent reviews of competition, pro-level and casual shooters, to people just looking for affordable home protection, to big name magazines and websites all say pretty much what you said. This gun is capable of out performing firearms that are double and triple its price! They always compliment the reliability, control and accuracy of it. One website even said he was getting tighter groups from his .45ACP than some people were getting with the Glock 37 .45GAP. And the GAP is supposed to be a more controllable round.
I dunno, I know there are prettier guns, and I'll probably pick one up just to be "cool" and have a slick name like Sig Sauer, Beretta, Glock or Smith and Wesson, but for the money . . .I dunno why I'd stray away from this. If it's as reliable and accurate as people claim, then I'll be satisfied for a long time to come whether it's at the range or if someone decides to kick my door in.

Not that I don't have love for it . . .I actually am beginning to find a few arms that are VERY cool to look at . . .it's just that for the price of a new Taurus PT92, I can buy a used Beretta 92FS . . .
But they are NICE . . .I was looking at some .40 cal taurus that was put up against the Springfield XD40 (I believe, don't quote me) and the Taurus won hands down . . .I'll try to find the article so you can read it

Taurus pt92 > Beretta 92fs. IMO, one reason i think is, the beretta has plastic guide rod, where as the taurus has a steel guide rod, but depending on the generation of beretta, most parts are interchangable, so you could probably get a steel rod for the beretta. I'm kind of partial to taurus though, I have a Taurus 24/7 pro .40 and i love it. but to each their own, I'd rather have a brand new taurus with a unlimited LIFETIME WARRENTY. I just wish that they would make a pt92 in a 45acp caliber, now that would be cool.
