yea i bought my macbook pro used for like 1100 last summer, never had any problems from it and its nearly 4 years old now

still faster than 99% of any of my friends computers that dont use macs

Yeah, I definitely want to pick up a mac for photo/video editing. My sister's got one and it handles editing way better than my pc i built up like less than a year ago.

to the OP, in case you can't source a legit XP disk + serial key (I can't remember if it'll let you keep running XP without a serial key, it's been a long time since i've done an XP fresh install. Vista will lock you out after 30 days with no key...), you can always run a linux-based windows emulator. but IIRC it won't be as responsive as regular XP. just laying out options.

1900? thats cheap. i bought my decked out macbook pro for 3300!!
we just got a G4 with dual 450MHz processors and 512 MB ram and its faster than one of our laptops that runs vista (2.0 GHz dual core, 2 GB ram)

good old freaking windows system resources ... i try to disable as much of that **** as i can when im doing something.... like watching ****... nothing worst than laggy ****.

Linux > all haha

i use Linux to access and fix some of my friends computers when they crash and wont boot up u can run Linux off a disk

only issue with linux is... if you are a power user... such as myself... many of the apps dont work correctly or at all.

linux is very nice to look at though.

Ditto. But if you plan on running linux as your main OS, definitely don't run it from the disk. It'll be slow as ****.

Umm... I can vouch saying that it can work without a key... but thats just how I run my things... LOL
