Another noob in the house

Sup all,

I just got my 240 today, and I am love'n it! The car has been dying on me. So far this has happend four times on two different trips.

I was thinking maybe the altenator, but I am not sure is there anything I should or can check? It's a 96

man...I cant stop smiling

I don't think it's possible for the car to die out four times if it was the alternator. Maybe your fuel pump is going out? Since you just bought it do all the basic maintenance. Change your plugs, wires, cap and rotor, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, brake fluid, power steering fluid, .....basically ALL your fluids.
WHY? so that you have an idea when to change them, for your maintenance log.

Welcome to the forums

can you give a little more of a description as to what happens when it dies, are you driving, or what??

Just do some maintenace stuff and go w/ what naptime said.
I think its a good idea whenever buying a new car to check it thorough. Replace fluid, spark plugs, plug wires, etc

Good Luck and welcome to the forums bro.

naptime, i'll do what you said, good advice thanks.

to s13 240 - I am driving the car when it shuts down. I took it out last night and notice it would hesitate when trying to accelerate.

The car hesitates after changing gears and hestates when going into neutral/idle

thanks for the welcome and advice

It's always a good idea to do that. The person that sold it to you could just be b'sing when they tell you that they maintained it real well, but how can you be so sure and they weren't milking it to make a sale? You never know, it might be a lemon car.

Check your plugs and wires again. Plugs might have oil in it or something. The wires could've been snagged.

Mine was sluggish at one point and hesitated here and there. Found out my wires weren't making connections real good and one of the plugs looked like this

Damn naptime! That plug on the right is ****ed

I agree that anytime you buy a new used car, especially one that's 13 years old that you have it serviced well.. Change the oil, plugs, wires, filters, drain/refill tranny and radiator+coolant. Also check the timing is in order and run some seafoam or injector cleaner through a tank of gas. That's what I do whenever I buy an old car GL

Your car dying may be caused by bad grounds, check em out
