Bought a 98 240sx....New member!
Hey there! I am a new member and new to 240s. I just paid for a 1998 240sx. Its in perfect condition and 91k miles, red, 5 speed. Original owner and it was my neighbors car, she took great care of it. Ill get some pictures of it tommorow after work! Ive been researching a bit on the KA24DE motor and its potential, and its torque/displacement advantage over the sr20det. For now I plan on keeping the KA motor, and doing some light mods for now. Maybe later on Ill do some more major work to the motor. I searched a bit, and found that thread about the 1000$ to get 200CHP. Would you guys recommend a short ram intake, or a cold air? Is there any cold air that doesnt have the problem with water getting into it since its so close to the ground? It rains here in FL quite a bit. Also, can a header be installed with the stock catback or at least the stock muffler? Would it still be loud? Id like a quiet exhaust...anyways thanks in advance!

Do a compression test on the motor and then decide if its a bad idea or not. As for kits, stay away from cheapo kits on ebay and stuff like SSautochrome. Theres several sites that offer quality kits, or parts to piece together your own kit.
Id reccomend pecing one together. i read the best turbo is the holset in the 2500 dodge turbodesil, good rail, injectors, dont sacrifice price 4 quality when it comes to manifold, bov, intercooler, things like that. its been known to handle 300 chp on stock internals. 1,500 bones later, vette killer! cudos on the kouki!

I'm glad to see that your wanting to go KA-T and not just go out and get a SR like most, but lets start off with a compression test on the motor.............then post your resultes and will let you know........you want to stay within 10 PSI of each cylinder........and as for 91K on the motor....you should be in very good shape to go turbo. My motor has 103K on her, so i'm not the far ahead of you and this is my 2nd KA-T build......... i did a compression test a few months ago and i got
#1 200 PSI
#2 200 PSI
#3 210 PSI
#4 200 PSI
Now mine is a bit high, and i have only seen a few KA's out there make that kind of compression a stock internals.....but your sould be around the 170's or 180's.....maybe in the 190's..........
What kind of spool time are you looking for? My 1st KA-T setup was the T25, and if you want crazy turbo spool.......then get it, b/c i got 17 PIS at 2,200 RPM's......... but if you want more of a midrange spool.......go with the T3/T4 setup........they seem to be the best choice for the KA-T in my opinion.
Car looks good by the way........
