Talking Hi, I'm Klutch, noob w/ questions:)

Hi, I'm Klutch I've been wanting a 240SX for a long time....got my chance to ride in one and man, was I hooked!! Anyways, I'm new to the 240SX thing, But I've been able to come across 240SX wrecks.... Anyways, my questions are:

1) What's the best way to go about finding a rolling chassis? (I can find KA24E and DE engines, and was looking for a project to get me started)

2) What do I look for in a 240SX hatch? Currently I'm looking for a '89 hatch, and I was wondering what do I look for in terms of structural problems, electrical problems, et al.

3) Can I obtain a complete salvaged junkyard car and go from there, or would it be more trouble than it's worth?(reletively speaking, this is a Junkyard car)

I'm asking these questions because I really want a 240SX, but I'm having a hard time trying to get ahold of something inexpensive to start with to be a personal project. Everything is either high in price or RB/SR-swapped. (not that that is a bad thing, but what does it take to find a cheapie project car?)

Thanks

welcome to the forums

Where are you located because I have a rolling chassis I need to sell in about a month.

1)Check your classifieds and ebay
2)Check out the FAQ section, you will find what you need there
3)Salvaged junkyard cars might be to much of a task, they usually have more problems then you think.

My thoughts:

1) If you're looking for an 89 (*as mentioned later in question 2) you can find some decent 89's for around 1000 (maybe even less). That INCLUDES an engine, although the lifespan of that engine in particular is unknown. Buying a full car would be cheaper than starting with a rolling chassis and dropping in a KA unless you have a bunch of hookups for free parts and installation, etc.

2) Other than the obvious (crash history, broken parts, weird smells, etc.) I'd look at the suspension condition. Not particularly the shocks, but more like the actual arms and links. look for bends, excessive wear, etc. Given that the frame is straight (carfax the VIN to get clues) and it hasn't been in any major accidents, bodywork is negligible - bodies can be fixed. The chassis and suspension are more key in buying a used car (seeing as it seems you plan on locating your own motor anyways).

3) Sure you can, but be ready for headaches trying to register it (if it's to be used on public roads). Junkyard cars are there for a reason. Like I said in answer #1, you can pickup a decent "project car" in the 89-90 vintage for pretty cheap. Just not in CA

Thanks....every little bit helps I might sell a couple of my old laptops, and maybe some of my arcade stuff to bulk up a bit more money to spend if I have to....This is going to be one hell of a search effort. Had the chance to buy one for $500 2 months ago....but with life things in the way, I had to pass. Man am I kinda heartbroken about that one. It was a fixer-uppper too, but was running strong.
