Post New Member with some questions/opinion requests

Hey everyone

I'm looking into getting a 240sx and right now I'm on the cusp of getting one.

However, here in lies the problem and my request for your opinions.

I saw a 92 240sx with 92k miles for 2500 and the car is in great shape.

OR

I saw a 89 240sx with 82k miles for 900 and the car has a hole in the exhaust, needs work done on the engine, etc. and there's a dent on the quarter panel.

Now here's the deal

If I wanted to do a swap eventually, (which I do) which one should I go with?

Thanks

Welcome to the site.

I don't think it matters what car you get if you're going to swap the engine out of it anyway. You can get a new exhaust if you bought the '89. Do you know how bad the engine is in the '89? Like, what kind of work it needs done to it? I wouldn't worry too much about the little dent on it.

I don't really have any two cents on the '92 since you said it was in great shape and all. Did you get to test drive either one though?

Where do you find these 240's with such low mileage by the way?

I'm on the East Coast, NY/NJ area. Lots of 240s around here.

I haven't driven either one, but the 92 seems like it's in really good condition. Woman owned, only selling because she's married and doesn't need a car anymore.

The 89 needs a speed sensor, valves need to be adjusted(No clue what that means), a tuneup, and that's

Also, the 89 is a coupe and the 92 is a hatch.

Then there's how much it'd cost for the swap etc. I don't think I have enough for one right now, and the 92 is probably more capable of getting me around for a longer period of time.

Thanks for the response.

Oh.. I love hatchbacks. That's the one I would go with... after I test drove it. Don't let the fact that a woman owned it fool you for how good it is.

I replaced the speed sensor in my '96 last fall. My car was throwing that code when I was trying to pass emissions. I think it was like $500 just for that sensor without the labor.

Thanks Jess. I really appreciate the fast responses.

btw, I wasn't turned off by the woman driving it, I meant it more like woman take care of their cars better. heh.

Anywho, the guy has the speed sensor for the 89 and that's in the sale. Quite the debate for me here. If I go with the hatch, i'm probably going to replace the exhaust for some more power/nicer sound at some point anyway and I'll be paying for a good exhaust for no reason!

Oh lordy. The drama of my s13-to be begins.

get the 92 unless you wanna deal with the headache of swapping all the ps stuffs when you do the engine swap.

I'd probably go with 1992. Why do an engine swap?
