new to nissan and 240's

hey guys. my name is Kurtis and i live in annapolis MD. i am currently looking for a 240. i am looking at one right now that has the SR20DET? is that right red top motor in it for 5k i am probably going to pick it up. anyways i am a long time VW guy that has just grown sick of the lack of power and scene that comes along with VW so i decided to move on. i have a few friends that have 240's or have had them and i always liked them and considered them just most of the time it wasn't the right time for me to have one. i decided now is the right time to have one for me haha. once i get one if the swap is already done i will probably redo the exhaust and put a roll cage in it since i work in a performance exhaust and tubing shop so it costs me next to nothing to build all this. anyways i hope to learn alot in here i already read the about the questions i shouldn't ask so don't worry about that haha. anyways be easy guys

Welcome aboard buddy. Let me get something straight, ...You drive a gti VR6 and are sick of the lack of power... so you want to pick up a 240?

WTF?

haha j/k. My only piece of advice is be weary of other people's swaps. Make sure you thoroughly check it out to be sure it wasn't some half-assed job that they never got running right. Other than that, good luck, and welcome!

Welcome, and Wakasugi is right, be careful about others swap jobs. I only trust myself and close friends who own shops... or a few of the guys here LOL

What kind of 240? S13 or 14 that is asking 5k?

yeah, I dunno what he has done to the motor and who he paid to do it, but my advice would be to build your own just so that you know exactly what and how things went down.

Not to mention I think it'd be cheaper to go that route of building your own.

yea i am still going to go look at it. the problem is i don't really have any place to do the motor swap or the time. i work all the time now and i am selling my VW in order to get one of these cars. i am sure i am capable of doing the swap i have done several swap cars over the years just no 240. but this car is super clean with an amazing body on it. i will be down there tonight test driving it and seeing whats up with it.

thanks for the info and the warm welcome guys.

Pay close attention to how the turbo responds, how long and how soon the turbo kicks in. And the usual stuff to listen for while looking at the engine.

But if all goes well, go for it if it attracts you!

That I dont remember, take a quick peek over in the turbo sections for SRs and see if anyone had posted that up... Its a small turbo, so it should be a pretty quick spool, how soon, I just cant remember for the life of me LOL

But do keep an ear out for its spooling consistency, should be smooth and have no "hiccups"

Biggamehit, I didn't know you were from Maryland. I mean i saw Andrews AFB but it just didn't click. I always pictured you as being from the West Coast.

sorry, that was off-topic.
