Well the rice boys on the forum will tell you that a welded diff is "perfectly streetable" with "common sense". The problem is, common sense is not a common virtue and what may be good for the goose isn't always good for the gander. I'm not completely against a welded or locked diff for drifting purposes only but if you absolutely MUST drift/race your daily driver (which I can start a whole new thread on my opinions on that) an LSD is definitely a better way to go. They allow for differentiation between the two wheels at low speed and when driving normally, and allow you to have fun when you're at the track. In addition, a good gear-type LSD will not need to be rebuilt at all. My Bullitt has a Detroit True Trac and it's a 0 maintenance unit. It'll never have to be rebuilt, it doesn't require friction modifier and the only thing that has to be done at all is just changing the diff fluid as you normally would.
I know you 240 ballers have a lot of options as far as good diffs. Also, if you're going to be "grip" racing, I don't think a welded diff will be good for that. I also know, for a fact, that a limited slip is better for grip than an open because as soon as you load the outside wheel, the inside wheel is just going to spin all of your power away.
But enough from me, I don't even own a 240sx, LOL!
