i think it turned out pretty nice, only took about 15 mins. i didnt even need to take the valve cover off just mask with newspaper. it even looks powdercoated, anyways here:

Wow, that looks really clean! I'm very interested in giving my KA the black-top treatment now. How about a DYI write-up?

not really that much to write its pretty straight forward: i used "rustolium specialty high heat" flat black spray paint (up to 1200 degrees) i marked the spark plug wires and pulled them out of the way. next i masked off the area (valve cover) using newspaper and masking tape, and sprayed about 4 light coats. once it was dry i used 220 grit sandpaper to give it the brushed aluminum lettering look. tip: use small pieces of sand paper to avoid messing up the paint around the lettering. and thats about it. it dries really fast and is very durable i think that pretty much covers it.

oh i forgot to add, take off the oil cap obviously and stuff newspaper in the opening and in the spark plug opening.

Did you do anything to prep the valve cover before you sprayed it? I'm going to have my entire bay steam washed before I start painting.

washed with soap and water no sanding or anything.
