downpipe issue

downpipe issue

i just a downpipe but on my stock sr20det blacktop downpipe theres a pipe coneecting to it which i have no idea what it is.

this is the pipe connecting to it

then it connects to this which i dont know what it is people say its a erg valve which i dont need.

o that arrow is the pipe to where it leads to the downpipe

Isnt that the AIV? I dont know where it's located on an SR, but im pretty sure thats what it is.

Woah there home skillet. SRs never had EGR valves. It's an AIV. But no, you dont need it. It's only there to give oxygen to the cat in order to heat it up.

o thanks for the info so i can just rip it off and one more question what do i do with that smallest hose do i just clamp it up?

SR have EGR lol but thats not it haha that AIV was missing from my front clip and my down pipe was already plugged

Wait, the reason SR's wont pass inspection in California is because they don't have an EGR, isnt it? What am I confused about?

Exhaust Gas Recirculation. EGR

It's used to help reduce Nitrogen Oxide emissions. Until you can replace your downpipe with something not made of rust, if you remove the EGR, you should block that spot either with a bolt, or cut the pipe, bend it over and hammer it shut.

I removed that from my car a good while back, no negative effects yet.
