300zx brakes

i was wandering if 160 to 200 dollors was a good price for the front calipers, they are iron and i think 30mm. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW thats the auction i am looking at, would you suggest them?
also i plan on getting better rotors and painting the calipers if that changes anything.

you could always try scamming autozone for rebuilt aluminum calipers. btw the aluminum calipers have the vains on the top part of the caliper it self. those are alum.

yeah i figured that out a little while after i posted the questions. Any idea where i could find decent 30mm iron calipers. i hear the aluminum ones don't last as long.

what you hear isnt true. people run alum all the time and juss work just as good as iron. only main difference is weight. i have iron and they weigh a good amount.

dont forget to upgrade the MC. it is one of the sought after thing. people dont upgrade it hence the "mushy" pedal to most people. some say they dont have it becuz they like it that way.

i have a MC that will fit and wont give you the mushy pedal. 15 pickup/20shipped. the MC is 15/16 and is perfect. 17/16 is over doing it.

what does 15/16 mean? it means a better pedal feel. in other words, the opposite of "mushy," firm.

just pay the core on them and bring your stock ones back later. they wont check cause they prob wouldnt think of it. a friend of mine used to work there and they never check anything like that. they just make sure there is something in the box. I do that for J30 axels also.

maybe they will check if its someone they dont know. I am calling them and in there so much for parts they prob just dont even think to check anything of mine. They just throw it in the bin behind the counter and slap a sticker on it.

@ autozone, the calipers were $50 + $60 core each

$220 + tax. just don't forget that these are just calipers....no brake hardware, such as:

pad pins
pad pin clips
spring clips
front brake hardware kit (brake pad shims, grease, etc)

all of this will run you around $80-$100

here's a pic of mine:

performance aspect?

so, of those of you out there who have the 300 zx brakes on the your 240's, is it worth the money?
What exactly, parts wise is it that you would need to do the swap?
also, do you have to buy new rotors, different brake lines etc? i've known people to go to junk yards and buy from wrecked 300's, and just part together the kit. I would like the double piston if it will make my car stop faster, especially since soon enough i'm going to go with some bigger rims, tempted on 18's, but might settle for 17's. we'll see. any info, advice, horror stories etc will help.
thanks
J.

it was worth it considering i would have had to buy new 240SX rotors/pads anyway.....the car stops like a dream!

refer to this thread for parts list:

btw you DON'T need the brake m/c. they work fine without it.

also you don't need the shims if you don't want them. if you don't like squeeky sounds then the shims you need.

where?

are these parts that you can buy over the internet, or are these parts that you buy at like Autozone or Advance? I'd like the stopping power, but I just put on new rotors all around, all with brake pads... guess i'll just have to do more suspension and engine work. brakes will come though.
thanks

autozone does not check. that scam has been done millions of times. as long as they have calipers for them to rebuild and resell, they dont really care. i decided to get mine off of someone else. like badman said, i wanted all the hardware
-front and rear 30mm aluminum calipers
-front and rear rotors
-shims, pins, clips, etc.
-1" z32 master cylinder
-crap load of brake pads

for $390 you decide if its good or bad. but remember that if you find a deal on used, dont hesitate. autozone's are rebuilt and everything, but as long as its a good deal and the calipers aren't leaking, take it. besides, its not hard to rebuild them yourself

btw, if your a weight junkie, get the 26 mm alum. one pound less of unsprung weight in each corner...
