Car is making weird noises in the rear

Hey everyone...i just got my car in the beginning of the week...it is a '91 fastback...it is in good condition from what i know about cars (which is not too much)...everything on the seems fine...however when i go slow, go in reverse, or go into 5th gear it makes like a grinding sound in the rear....my friend said it might be the "ring gear"? dunno what that is...anywhoo...i was wondering if anyone had the same problem and if anyone might know what the problem might be?

The noise...

Hey there Santana, that noise you may be hearing is something similar to my current car which is my 1980 BMW 320i. Whenever I go slowly in parking lots or just turn slowly... I hear the creaking or grinding noise. I've looked it over with my dad and found out that the "Axle Stub's" teeth had worn out and cause my tire to become loose. I bet if you take off the tire on the side that the sound is on and wiggle the disk rotor back and forth you can tell its loose.. hope I helped a lil.. cause I have to tighten my "Axle Stub" every two days until I can replace it with a new one.. BTW I'm still waiting on my S13. Catch you sideways.
