E BRAKE light while drifting

every ime i drift my "BRAKE" light comes on, even when i dont use the e-brake. i was wondering if its some old school traction controll like if it senses that the wheels are spinning it applys a little of the rear brakes to get traction back and if so is it hurting my drifting?? by the way i have a 1990 S13. i tried serching but nothing came up on this subject. thanks
