question about shocks...

I just got my KYB AGX's today and I have installed the front ones already. I will be installing the back ones tomorrow. Must say that with the stock springs they are not nearly as stiff as I was hoping but they still rock! I think once I get the back ones on they will be the best money I've ever spent.

That being said, my rubber boots that went over my stock struts were completely trashed and so I threw them away. The new KYB's don't come with rubber boots. Are they necessary? I have seen multiple cars riding around with the piston exposed but can this cause premature strut failure like if water or dirt get on them?

I would say you need them period....it is critical that the seal between the outside of the strut and the casing is airtight, otherwise you lose pressure and the strut fails.

Pieces of dirt or water (causing rust) can f that up

Well this friggan sucks! The only place who can get the back ones is the local Nissan place and they want $60 a piece for them. Advance Auto can get the fronts for $20 in a set...... Nissan said they weren't actually necessary but if you guys say they are I guess I'm gonna be choking down $140 worth of rubber.

$60 each!?!?!?!??!

I would just call a company like TEIN, etc. that makes coilovers in house and ask for a replacement set.....surely they must have some sitting around....

It can't POSSIBLY cost more than going through Nissan dealer =assrape

Try autopartswarehouse.com.They have front and rears boots for about $20 to $23 a piece.I found out about them after I already spent $100 for rears at PDM racing.
