What to check before buying used coilover?

I plan to buy a set of coilovers for my 95 240 but I think i'm going to search for a used set. What would i look out for? Blown shocks? Bent struts? How do i check for those? What are some standard things to watch out for with most used coilovers? Thanks

You answered your own question.

well, I figure if someone was to sell bad shocks they can just clean the oil up. But is there a way to test the shock?

Well try to compress them if you hear a whistle or watery sound (hard to explain) that means the seals are blown.
