it sounds like a boost leak to me. check your connections and make sure that youre not leaking anywhere.

you BOV may be releasing prematurely, it could be openeing when it builds up too much pressue, are you running a reccurculating BOV, or bypass valve?

Find out what the spring is rated at inside the BOV. If the spring is only rated for X psi., and your pushing Y psi, it may be opening prematurely. It could also be an old BOV and the spring is just tired. What kind of BOV is it?

do a pressure test. with your car NOT running take off your intake pipe from your turbo. the pressure tester needs to be home made. this is kinda ghetto, but it works. i have done it many times on my eclipse and you can use the tester down the road to make sure you are not loosing any power before a big race. the parts you will need are as follows. pvc pipe end. tire valve, 2 clamps, jb weld, 1 coupler. clamp and jb weld the pvc pipe end to the coupler. put the tire valve in the middle and jb weld it in. put the other clamp on the other end of the coupler. that is all it takes to make the tester. (mine is identical and i test to 30 psi on my eclipse and it holds together!!!) using the clamp, clamp it on to where your intake comes off of your turbo and using an air compressor put air in the tester. have someone watch your boost guage to make sure it doesn't go too high. bring the guage up to around 10-15 psi and it should hold that much boost for quite some time. if their is a leak, you should be able to hear it. if you are not sure where, some people use soapy water on the hoses and look for bubbles. like i said before this sounds kinda ghetto, but you will be asking me for advice with your girlfriend next week if you try it because you will be so impressed. it is not difficult and it works great. ghetto i know, but good luck!!!

thanks,

no i don't. i don't have a digital camera, but it is easy to make. just put the tire valve in the middle of the pvc pipe end and put it together tight so you can put it on your turbo. it really is as simple as it sounds. you should also have a mechanical boost guage to watch. if you don't, don't hold the air hose on the tester for longer than 15-20 seconds. sorry for no pics, but im a little behind the times.

hey chris, you should do a writeup of the pressure tester.
i'd like to know how to make one as well, from what you tell us, it's kind of hard to visualize what you are talking about.
so...... please post pics when you can!

it is easy all you need is 3-6" pvc pipe a cap for it a valve stem, some type of plumbers glue, liquid cement or somethin like that and a coupler that will fit the intake pipe and the pvc pipe where your filter is.

drill a hole in the top of the cap put the valve stem through it where it sticks out the top glue it in place so it doesnt leak

glue up the end of the pvc pipe, stick it in the cap and let it set and cure. put the coupler on with hose clamps pull your filter put it on the pipe hose clamp it fill with air to your boost levels maybe a lb or 2 more and listen for leaks

there ya go it is real easy

if ya wanna get fancy get a pressure gauge and install it in the cap the same way you do you valve stem and voila you can watch the pressure rise right there

does that help

im surprized that someone else knows how to make one. if you have a digital camera you could show some pictures, but i don't. but to everyone else, it is just as easy as it sounds.
