Unhappy Embarassed to ask

this embarassing to ask, but I just want to clarify what a hot pipe is. it is the intercooler pipe between the turbo and the intercooler, right? if I have an intercooler kit with the pipes, do I have to get a new pipe with the flange for the bov or is that just an extra type thing? Dont rag on me too much. I was an N/A Honda guy until I bought this 240sx.

hot pipe is turbo => cooler
cold pipe is cooler => tb
you can always just weld a flange onto your existing piping

yeah the search is a great tool, but it can be agrivating if you are looking for something specific. Do you or anyone know of a good link explaining the components of a turbo and what they do? and again, can I run my car with no bov? I'm on a limited budget now, but its an ongoing thing...

hopefully this will be of some help:

http://www.rpi.edu/~pasquj/turbo/howturboswork.htm
http://www.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm

as far as bov's go, i'm no expert. so maybe this can explain it better until a real expert comes along:

http://freespace.virgin.net/c.coleman/dumpvalv.htm

hope that helps.

havning no BOV would be a bad idea, it makes whats called (i think) "compressor surge". alot of stock BOVs do this, it when not enough air is leaving and it can spin the turbo backwards, it will sound like "psst-t-t-t-t-t" insted of just "psssshh" if that makes sense.
and you dont want your turbo to spin backwards FYI

From: I was raised in Bubank and am now living in sunland but i still work in burbank and have family there not like sunlands that far away.
yeah dont run to long or hard without a BOV, when your motor cant take anymore air/boost like when between shifts when most turbo cars make that whosshhsshs sound, thats the excess air leaving in most afterarket cases, into the atmosphere via a BOV but ne ways, when your engine cant take anymore it has no choice but to go back to whence it came and could cause undue stress to your turbo plus everything else along the way. Theres a special name for this but i cant think of it right now.... but seriously i would hold off on the turbo until you can get the bov if you dont have a money tree growing in your back yard......the damage u can do not using a bov can cost u two or even three BOV's in damage........thats my opinion ne way...best of luck...ps try ebay u can good deals on used bov's there, plus lots of other s13,14,15 stuff....am i not supposed to plug sites or sellers of parts on this site?...im kinda new here. Please let me know if im not suppsed to AIM: punkXcasanova

OK, maybe I didnt ask the right question. I am on a limited budget and a time crunch from hell. I F-ed up and bought the motorset insted of the clip and am just finding out now what I missed out on. I was just panicking and wasnt thinking straight. I know what a bov is, but I didnt Know how its plumbed and whaere it goes and if the motor has it stock, but those issues have been solved and I thank you for helping me out.

Good link! it'll take me a while to read through it but it looks like there's a lot of good into in there even though it was written for a turbo integra setup.
