But honestly, how many people do you see driving around the street with 900 horsepower cars that are streetlegal? Plus, the KA is beginning to get alot of aftermarket support now. I honestly love the ka and have one. Affordability and power wise, I would go for the ka because parts are easy as heck to find, you can pick up a used engine for dirt cheap, and it's already there. The torque the engine makes is awesome and it's fun as heck. I get instant response with my t28. So when it comes down to it, affordability and availiabilty is there if your going for a mild street car, or full drag monster.

the 350 is all about displacement. "theres no replacement for displacement" psh... yeah right, if you talk about displacement over technology, dont leave out the big guns. Anybody can have huge displacement, but not everybody can build a badass motor with less than 3 liters of displacement. Just my 2 cents

there is a replacement for displacement, it is called technology. turbos are technology, superchargers are technology, lightweight is technology, higher reving abilitys is technology. ive never seen a 350 rev to 9k, but ive seen 1.8 honda motors do 10k. i love all sources of power (be it v8 or I4 to rotary) power is power. it seems like the KA is a damn good series of motors for what they do. id put my money on the KA just because it is untapped power and never really tried.
duh didnt you read the whole thread? we already discussed that turbos are technology...and ive seen a 350 do 8k... my freind's crx (which i wish he would have someone drive over a cliff) is an h22a VTEC and does 8.5k. The world may never know how these things work. The thing about technology is that it can only go so far : push a turbo too hard and it breaks down, or you blow your manifold, or throw a rod. But take a sr20 and build the hell out of it, now take an RB26DETT and build the hell out of it, which will win? the one with more displacent. Without displacement, youre not going anywhere. Displacement is torque, displacement is power. Try pulling off the line with one of those honda 1.8L that revs to 10k and try with a 240 that has a RB series motor (not the RB20, its kinda weaksauce for torque) i will put my money on the bigger displacement. When youre on the highway, sure horses are good, but more displacement can still produce more ponies than that B18 can. I would put my money on a KA24 turbo vs a SR20 any day of the week

i did read the whole thread, ive participated in several forum discussions on this. yes displacement is what makes you move, i understand the concepts of torque. displacement stops when a car can't carry the weight of the motor, but technology will always advance to push more power out of nothing. great discussion though, and i hope i didn't come off as a a**hole lol.

I'm a SR man... I cut my teeth on building them.. But, I have to say, that a built KA is WAY better than a built SR.. hands down. There are guys out there, who have made 550whp, on stock cams, stock head and stock intake manifold. Plus, the TQ curve is so much better. I think that there was a lot of misconception about the KA, because everyone was so quick to jump on the SR when the magazines made it public. Yes, the SR is built stronger from the factory.. but not by much. If the KA came with lower compression pistons from the factory, I have no doubt, that you'd see more high HP stock KA's out there. Even still... mid 400whp level with almost equivilant in TQ, can be had with a simple piston swap, and some studs.
Now, with that said... There's a engine that I think, will smoke both the KA and the SR, once built. The QR25DE, found in the new Frontier, is a 2.5 liter, BIG stroke motor. 89mm bore, 100mm stroke, and a 143mm rod. This engine is a TQ monster, and, teamed with a turbocharger, makes a very nice, flat TQ curve. The cylinder head flows almost as well as a K20 Acura head, and has cam on bucket technology. The fall backs... It won't rev past 6800, because of the large stroke.. it's open deck.. and weak rods. This limits you to about 400whp on stock sleeves with pistons/rods. This engine has been in use in the SE-R Spec V for 3 years.. The newest project... which will make this engine one of the best 4 bangers in the import scene.. What we've done.. is take a SR20 crankshaft, and cut it to fit in the QR block. The bore centers are the same between engines.. as well as the main bearing diameter. We had a 6" rod made for it, and a custom 8.8:1 C/R piston from Arias. Custom cams, springs, and manifolds were built for it. This gives us a 2.3 liter engine, that can rev to 9K safely (1.76:1 rod/stroke ratio), has a killer flowing cylinder head, and no rocker arms to break. Team that with a SC67/T3 turbocharger, and tubular manifold.. and you've got a 5-600whp 9000rpm engine.. with a killer powerband. Now, that this is going to be available in the Frontier.. I will be building a N/A version of this engine, with a 11.5:1 C/R piston. I am looking to make 260-270whp with it.. it will go into my S13 drag chassis.

With regards to the QR, Ive been thinking about that engine. Can't wait to see it built man. Gl with the project.
