one thing that i feel is lacking, where are you going to be stationed man? im in NC, fort bragg... so many people are talking about swaps and all... nobody ever talks about how to get them registered. i was under the impression that basically anything other than the stock motor wouldnt pass inspection. id LOVE to do a RB25DETT swap, but because I wouldnt know what to do come the yearly inspection, i just had a KA24DE block built up, full build on it, port/polish the head, etc... wouldnt that be the way to go? then on with a revhard turbo kit, or the like? thats my plan anyway. any thoughts fellas? by the way, know where you will be stationed? go airborne, and ask for Ft. Bragg! what MOS are you goin for?

if you're going for the silvia front end, build up the KA for less money than SR, shippin a silvia front end in can't be inexpensive.

some guy built a "cheap KA-T"
1. ssac manifold
2. T25 junkyard SR20 turbo
3. SR20 370's
4. cheap rubber piping (no I/C)

this is basically his setup and he said it felt like he could walk all over stock SR20 swaps and for less then 1/4th of the price

and how long will it last? not nearly as long as a SR20 swap the thing people dont get is that 2k for a SR20 swap then put 5k into it will stomp all over any KA-T out there even with 7k into with to work with i would be making like 500whp and still have money to spare people just dont get or want to admit that a SR20 is a better motor. Theres 2 reasons to do a KA-T

1. your dont have enough money to do a SR20 swap less then 2.5k
2. your drag racing were u want the biggest motor u can get.

so unless your only going to drag race then go KA-T if u plan on auto-x or drifting then a SR is the way to go

Oh god....here we go with the whole KA-T VS SR20 deal........peaple KAT's, SR20's, Rb20s RB25s & RB26s are all good motors.....it's just what you want and what your going to do with it and how much money your going to spend doing it.......its all up to YOU!..........................END OF STORY!

P.S. RB20S13, you cant say anything about how long a motor will last......every motor is diff and its all up to how good the motors been tuned and built.......and even if the motor is stock.....it will depend on how well the motor has been treated.

and i know for a fact that this setup :

1. ssac manifold
2. T25 junkyard SR20 turbo
3. SR20 370's
4. cheap rubber piping (no I/C)

Can walk all over any stock SR.

I ran 15 PSI on that setup on my old KA-T and my KA had over 240,000 miles on her.....and no i didnt blow it up, but i wanted another KA with less miles on her so i got another KA with 100,000 miles.......all the stock SR20s are no were near as fast as the T25 KA-T setup........and by all means they should not be, but if anyone out there says that a stock sr20det will kick a T25 or T28 KA-T setup, then they are just dumb or there just one of those sr20 people who think that nothing is better then a sr20 and wont admit the fact that the KA-T has a better setup then the stock sr20

Dont get me wrong....the SR20's is a great Motor, its a Nissan.....what else would you expect......but there are times when people just hate on the KA-T and they no nothing about either motor.......i'm here to say, that i have had a chance to see what both motors have to offer, and from what i can tell is that both motors are great and i say choose a motor that you and only you love, dont go do a motor swap or stay with the stock motor just b/c someone else tells you to, do it b/c you want to do it.

amen to that, basically all you
want to do with that is what
you want, either engine you
go wiht, make sure you get good injectos, 550cc or more, a
nice engine manegment,
tune the ecu, fuel pump,
maf,bigger or new turbo (gt28),
new manifold,new dp,exhaust,fmic,intake,clutch,
flywheel, cams and if you want
400 do the head work, there you
go for anymotor this is what you
should be looking for

the way i see it 7 grand is still kind of a tight budget, yet very do-able, ive done it with my ka-t build easy including wheels suspension 5 speed swap and so fourth. also ka parts are dirt cheap, plus the motor can handle quite a beating. with 7k i think it would be pushing it to make 300-400whp from a stock sr, however for the price of an sr you can get a ka and build it to handle a lot of power including all the machining and everything and still have a little extra money to spend on fuel management, the sr has their potential just like any other motor i just think on a tight budget its not the way to go, unless you find some crazy deal on the sr20 i wouldnt see it happening imo.

Sr20 swap it and do some cams. Upgrade to a gt28 or get one off a S15 Sr20, Fmic,Complete turbo back exhaust and do a light weight flywheel and stage 2 or 3 clutch..

If I had 7K I would go get drunk with it all even tho id prolly be drunk for 9 weeks but seriously Id buy and Sr20Det if it was mine put it in my basment but a Gt30 turbo upgrade and buy forged pistons rods and arp rod bolts and a stronger head gasket and push like 16 psi on the motor.and 16 psi on the gt30 with some othewr simple upgrades like bigger injectors and turbo back exhaust youll push like 400 hp.But youll def need to tune it but you will be very satisfied with your results....

--------------------------------------------------
SO i laughed at him and said Hondas are great beacause of light weight?? and chuckled its not a sport with no torque GO BUY A NISSAN

sr swap, bigger turbo, injectors, and newspark plugs, new exhaust system and intake system, and an airfuel ratio controller. then if you have money left over and you actually care about handling you can get new suspension, strut braces, brakes and sway bars. this will give you a great all around track car.

i say search the vehicle classifieds and buy a nice 240sx with it done.. building it would cost a lot more if u going sr20.. just buy one with a sr20.. i mean sure u know it most likely was push or drifted or something but even when u do a swap u dont know what [previous owner did to the motor.. so buy one with the swap so u know how it runs and it be lots cheaper than building one yourself unless u plan on rebuilding the motor anyway.. but then thats gonna pass your budget for 400 whp
